When the snowflakes fall,
both the grasses and the trees
dormant for winter
are blossoming with flowers
that are unknown in springtime.

Original by Ki no Tsurayuki. I've no idea why, in the headnote, the "written" is omitted (the "as" is not). Note the first explicit mention of the season. Compare to the snow/blossom confusion in early spring of #6 & 7 -- as well as some of the next several poems.yuki fureba
