lnhammer: the Chinese character for poetry, red on white background (Default)
Watch whirly tourists in the street
   And wonder whether they're insane;
They're not -- they're lost in Reykjavík
   And they just stumbled off the plane.

Or at least, that's the date I posted it to a forum, from a hostel's internet terminal -- it was probably written a day or two before. By way of explanation, flights to Iceland from North America are all red-eyes, leaving late at night and arriving 6 or 7 am, in a time zone 5 or 6 hours ahead, where the sun in summer doesn't set until midnight. The result is a lot of loopy Americans, the first couple days on the ground.

About

Warning: contents contain line-breaks.

As language practice, I like to translate poetry. My current project is Chinese, with practice focused on Tang Dynasty poetry. Previously this was classical Japanese, most recently working through the Kokinshu anthology (archived here). Suggestions, corrections, and questions always welcome.

There's also original pomes in the journal archives.
