lnhammer: the Chinese character for poetry, red on white background (Default)
    "Make, O mountain storm
of Hatsuse Temple,
    that heartless person
even more cruel to me!"
I didn't pray for that, yet ...

Original by Minamoto no Toshiyori, son of Tsunenobu (#71) and father of Shun'e (#85). Hatsuse near Nara is the home of what's now named Hase Temple, a common pilgrimage site for lovers and notorious for its winds.

About

Warning: contents contain line-breaks.

As language practice, I like to translate poetry. My current project is Chinese, with practice focused on Tang Dynasty poetry. Previously this was classical Japanese, most recently working through the Kokinshu anthology (archived here). Suggestions, corrections, and questions always welcome.

There's also original pomes in the journal archives.
