Kokinshu #21
Saturday, 13 November 2010 07:45 A poem that accompanied a gift of young greens by the Ninna Emperor when he was [still] Crown Prince.
It was for your sake
that I went to the spring fields
to pluck these young greens,
and all the while the snowflakes
kept falling on my wide sleeves.

Original by Emperor Kôkô (830-887), written some time before his accession in 884 at the age of 54. He has one other poem in the Kokinshu. I've posted this before (though it's been lightly revised) as it's also Hyakunin Isshu #15. Finally, the young greens are present and pickable. Progress! Note this one also has an implicit color contrast, of light green and white.kimi ga tame
