Original by Ariwara no Motokata. Tatsu, literally "stand up" but also several extended senses, is usually used to describe the "rising" or "appearing" of the spring mist -- here, and this seems to be the entire point, it's used as the "starting out" part of its return to wherever it came from. Without any way to reproduce the weakness of that wordplay, this actually reads a little better in translation. (See #120 for a play on the same word that's done well.) Which means so far Motokata's batting 0 for 3 with his poems.oshimedomo
