lnhammer: colored smoke on a white background - caption "softly and suddenly vanished away" (disappearance)
Empty mountain, I don’t see anyone
But hear the sound of someone’s voice.
Returning brightness enters the deep forest,
Reflected up from the green moss.

A stab at a poem many, many have translated (heck, even my mother has). Lots of guessing based on my shaky modern Mandarin -- for I am ass at classical Chinese -- and I have only a vague clue how to understand 返景. But there you have it. Original:

鹿柴
空山不见人,
但闻人语响。
返景入深林,
复照青苔上。

About

Warning: contents contain line-breaks.

As language practice, I like to translate poetry. My current project is Chinese, with practice focused on Tang Dynasty poetry. Previously this was classical Japanese, most recently working through the Kokinshu anthology (archived here). Suggestions, corrections, and questions always welcome.

There's also original pomes in the journal archives.
