lnhammer: the Chinese character for poetry, red on white background (Default)
[personal profile] lnhammer
Written on plum blossoms amid the snow.

    And yet if the scent
of the plums mingles into
    the settling snow,
who could possibly pick out
and pluck only the flowers?

Original by Ki no Tsurayuki. If this wasn't written as a direct response to #335, it must have been to another, similar sentiment. Some cliches deserve skewering.

About

Warning: contents contain line-breaks.

As language practice, I like to translate poetry. My current project is Chinese, with practice focused on Tang Dynasty poetry. Previously this was classical Japanese, most recently working through the Kokinshu anthology (archived here). Suggestions, corrections, and questions always welcome.

There's also original pomes in the journal archives.
