lnhammer: the Chinese character for poetry, red on white background (Default)
Topic unknown.

    I dozed, and saw him,
the one for whom I long,
    and ever since then
I have begun relying
upon those things called dreams.

—10 November 2010

Original by Ono no Komachi. A little more creative with the syntax than my usual, but that seemed the best way to handle the repeated verb inflections of personal recollection, which give them a mild emphasis.

About

Warning: contents contain line-breaks.

As language practice, I like to translate poetry. My current project is Chinese, with practice focused on Tang Dynasty poetry. Previously this was classical Japanese, most recently working through the Kokinshu anthology (archived here). Suggestions, corrections, and questions always welcome.

There's also original pomes in the journal archives.
