lnhammer: the Chinese character for poetry, red on white background (Default)
[personal profile] lnhammer
    Does the moon tell me,
"Lament!" -- thus making me
    worry about things?
No -- and yet my tears, alas,
are on this complaining face.

—19 August 2010

Original by Saigyô, the pen name of Satô no Norikiyo, who took orders with the religious name of Eni. Although the topic is given as "love before the moon," this may be an "allusive variation" on #23, in which case the "things" thought about would for once not be the other person.

About

Warning: contents contain line-breaks.

As language practice, I like to translate poetry. My current project is Chinese, with practice focused on Tang Dynasty poetry. Previously this was classical Japanese, most recently working through the Kokinshu anthology (archived here). Suggestions, corrections, and questions always welcome.

There's also original pomes in the journal archives.
