lnhammer: the Chinese character for poetry, red on white background (Default)
(Topic unknown.)

    So here I must sleep,
a traveler in this village:
    in the confusion
of falling cherry blossoms,
I've forgotten the way home.

—2 February 2011

(Original author unknown.) Darn those cherries, always causing problems. Whether the falling petals simply befuddle the speaker or are so thick they prevent him from seeing the road is a matter of interpretation.

For your amusement, a picture that reminded the photographer of this poem.

About

Warning: contents contain line-breaks.

As language practice, I like to translate poetry. My current project is Chinese, with practice focused on Tang Dynasty poetry. Previously this was classical Japanese, most recently working through the Kokinshu anthology (archived here). Suggestions, corrections, and questions always welcome.

There's also original pomes in the journal archives.
