The flowers' colors
are imprisoned by the haze --
mountain winds of spring,
if you cannot reveal them,
at least steal away their scent.

Original by Yoshinune no Munesada, better known as Henjô; while attributing this (and two other poems) to his lay name might indicate it was written before he took orders, there's at least one poem attributed to Henjô with a headnote indicating it was from he was still laity. I'm not entirely happy with my first line, but it's the best I can do at the moment.hana no iro wa
